Indoor/outdoor composting

I was talking to my ST's aunt about this last week.

I love the idea of breaking down our kitchen waste and applying it to something useful (ex. our garden) vs. just contributing to a landfill. I've found several websites that talk about the pros and cons of creating your own compost bin vs. purchasing one.

This site gave me some cool ideas on indoor compost bins...but the red worm compost bin FREAKS me out. I just couldn't do it!

Plus, I was amazed by the statistic reported on this site - "Kitchen scraps account for 24% of Americans' trash..."

  1. We've been wanting to compost but haven't yet. I don't think our trash that is compostable is that much to be honest....you have to remember...in order to have a lot of compostable trash, you have to make really good meals, which I rarely do! :O)

  2. Ha! I just saw pics of your kitchen. You def make really good meals! :)

Let me know if you do decide to compost. I want to hear all your lessons learned.

Right now, the hubby doesn't seem to keen on me doing it. Plus, I'm just not sure where we would keep an indoor bin. For that matter, I'm not even sure where we'd keep an outdoor bin. Our backyard is so small. Ugh!

  3. J. wants to compost it is just a matter of the money to buy a bin or make a bin or whatever you have to do. His list is long and I have a feeling that's at the bottom of it.

No, I don't make good meals. Lunches tend to be the most simple; mac and cheese, soup, sandwiches, etc...I had pans out yesterday cause I made cake batter cookies.
